Molecular characterization of blueberry mosaic-associated virus in highbush blueberries in Serbia
Apstrakt
The symptoms of blueberry mosaic disease were noticed on highbush blueberries (Vaccinium corymbosum L.) in two distant plantations in west Serbia a decade ago. The symptoms included a yellow, white, yellowish green and pink mosaic pattern on the leaves of the blueberry cultivars Bluecrop, Duke, and Goldtraub. Reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) confirmed the presence of blueberry mosaic-associated virus (BlMaV) in two localities. In this paper, we analyzed the sequences of 10 BlMaV isolates collected from these plantations. The percentage of nucleotide sequence identity among the analyzed isolates ranged from 87.9 to 100.0%. Phylogenetic analysis confirmed the existence of two groups of geographically and temporally distant BlMaV isolates in Serbia.
