AB - Bio-based solutions that promote plant growth, yields and functional quality of foods in primary production are gaining popularity in environmentally challenging conditions such as temperature fluctuations, late frosts and excess precipitation. This study was implemented to examine the foliar effect of microalgae biostimulants (three microalgae: Chlorella vulgaris, Scenedesmus vacuolatus and Coelastrella sp. in two concentrations ‒ 5 and 10%) on growth, productivity and fruit quality of strawberry cultivar ‘Alba’. Strawberry vegetative and generative potential (rosette height, number of leaves, flowers and fruit per plant), physical fruit properties (weight, height, width and shape index) was assessed with standard morphometric methods as well as fruit quality (sugars, organic acids and phenolic compounds) with high performance liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry (HPLC/MS). Result showed that algae treatment T6 (Coelastrella sp., 10%) applied foliarly positively affected on the balance between vegetative and generative growth and consequently, more than 25% higher yields for the treated plants. Content of sugar and most of secondary metabolites in treatment T6 were more than 10% higher compared to other treatments. Overall, the results of the present study suggest the sustainable approach of microalgae application may introduce positive advances in organic strawberry production in field conditions. Furthermore, research provides novel insights into influence of microalgae on important fruit quality components that can contribute to the various potential-beneficial human health effects.

AB - Natural biostimulant products that enhance the growth, productivity, and nutritional quality of
fruits are becoming increasingly popular, particularly in challenging environmental conditions
like fluctuating temperatures, spring frosts, and excessive precipitation. This study aimed to
evaluate the effect of the dihydroquercetin-based biostimulant on the yield and fruit quality of
the strawberry cultivar 'Alba' grown in an open field condition. Biostimulant application
increased strawberry yield, total phenolic content and antioxidant activity, while physical
traits, total soluble solids (TSS), titratable acidity (TA), pH, and total sugars (TS), invert sugar
(IS) and sucrose (SUC) responded differently to the biostimulant. The application of
dihydroquercetin-based nanoemulsion negatively affected the content of TSS, TA, TS and IS
but not the external appearance of the strawberry (weight, dimensions, shape, index color and
firmness). These data suggested that dihydroquercetin-based treatment might maintain
physical traits while improving the content of bioactive compounds of strawberry fruit due to
the enhancement of the phenolic content and antioxidant activity.
temperatur, spomladanske pozebe in prevelike količine padavin. Namen te študije je bil
oceniti učinek biostimulanta na osnovi dihidrokvercetina na rodnost in kakovost plodov
žlahtnega jagodnjaka sorte 'Alba', gojenega na prostem. Uporaba biostimulanta je povečala
pridelek, vsebnost skupnih fenolov in antioksidativni potencial, medtem ko so se druge
spremenljivke, kot so topna suha snov (TSS), titracijske kisline (TA), pH, vsebnost skupnih
sladkorjev (TS), invertnega sladkorja (IS) in saharoza (SUC), različno odzvale na uporabo
biostimulanta.
antioksidativne aktivnosti.

AB - Raspberries are highly valued by consumers due to their nutraceutical properties, which have been associated with various health benefits. The production of red raspberry in the Republic of Serbia is characterized by a dominance of cultivar ‘Willamette’. The aim of this study was to identify fruit quality of ‘TulaMagic’, ‘Tulameen’, ‘Amira’, ‘Fertodi Zamatos’, and ‘Willamette’ in the region of Arilje (Western Serbia). The highest weight (5.2 g) and length (25.8 mm), as well as the highest content of soluble solids (12.1%), total (6.5%), and invert sugars (0.8%), and sucrose content (0.8%) were found in ‘Tulameen’. The highest total phenols content (89.36 mg GAE 100 g−1 FW) was found in ‘Fertodi Zamatos’, whereas the highest content of anthocyanins (43.53 mg C3G 100 g−1 FW) was found in ‘Willamette’. The highest antioxidant capacity was in ‘Fertodi Zamatos’ (288.71%) and ‘Willamette’ (265.59%). The results obtained in this study proved the high nutritional capacity of fruits of the studied raspberry cultivars. Further research should focus on investigation of other their agronomic important properties to be able to recommend these cultivars for intensive introduction in raspberry commercial production in the Republic of Serbia.

AB - Apple (Malus×domestica Borkh.) is one of the most represented and economically most
important fruit species. There are a number of calcium-containing products on the market that
can be applied before or after harvest to delay fruit maturation with no negative effects on
consumers. The paper also presents the results of a study on the effects of a foliar application
of calcium chloride (ʻStopitʼ) on the physical and basic fruit quality properties of the apple
cultivar ʻGlosterʼ. The study was conducted for two consecutive years, and the changes in
fruit weight, firmness, dimensions, soluble solids, total sugars, and organic acids content were
studied during harvest and storage periods of 60 and 120 days in a regular cold chamber.
Fruits treated with calcium chloride had higher fruit weight, height, width, firmness, total
sugars, and ratio between total sugars and organic acids (206.0 g, 70.6 mm, 77.8 mm, 7.6 kg
cm-2, 10.4%, and 21.4, respectively). The storage period had a significant effect on all fruit
parameters studied, except for the content of total acids. The highest values of physical
properties were mesured at the moment of storage, soluble solids content after 60 days (13.2°
Brix), and total sugars (10.9%) and sugar/acid ratio (22.3) after 120 days of storage. Foliar
application of CaCl2 during vegetation can be an effective measure to avoid losses in apple
fruit quality during storage in the regular cold chamber.

The two most grown cultivars of blackberry in Serbia are ‘Loch Ness’ and ‘Čačanska Bestrna,’ each with their own unique characteristics and benefits. The choice of cultivar depends on the specific needs and preferences of the grower, as well as the growing conditions and market demand in their region. The aim of this study was to compare the fruit quality of the ‘Loch Ness’ and ‘Čačanska Bestrna’ blackberry cultivars during different maturity stages (fully ripe and overripe). The study found that both cultivars had higher values of soluble solids content (10.80° Brix), total anthocyanins (118.09 mg cyn-3-glu 100 g-1 FW), weight (7.64 g), length (26.57 mm), and fruit shape index (1.48) when sampled at the overripe maturity stage. On the other hand, an increase in total phenolic content (601.56 mg 100 g-1 FW), antioxidant capacity (3.81 µmol Trolox 100 g-1 FW), and fruit width (18.30 mm) was determined in fully ripe blackberry fruits. Considering that blackberry fruits produced in Serbia are mainly sold on domestic and foreign markets in a frozen state due to the low level of processing capacity, these research findings will be useful in modern food technology. The trend in food technology is directed towards extending the shelf life and increasing the content of nutrients in blackberry fruits.

AB - Cultivation systems, especially mulching, play an important role in modifying soil
properties and have a significant effect on the chemical composition of fruits. Therefore,
the purpose of this study was to compare two cultivation systems (black plastic mulch and
bare soil) and determine the associated response of soil characteristics and biochemical
composition of chokeberry (cv. ‘Nero’) fruits. Soil properties and fruit phytochemical
profile were analyzed using established procedures. Antioxidant activity was determined
by several methods and cytotoxic activity was evaluated by MTT (3-[4,5-dimethylthiazol-
2-yl]-2,5 diphenyltetrazolium bromide) assay. Results indicated that both cultivation
systems caused changes in soil physical, chemical, and biological properties. Black plastic
mulch led to a greater decrease in clay fractions and most of the agrochemical properties
analyzed, and an increase in the numbers of fungi, compared to bare soil. Moreover,
mulch was effective in increasing soil temperature and conserving soil moisture by
preventing evaporation. This relationship of soil parameters, especially temperature and
moisture, under plastic mulch increased the content of certain bioactive phenolic
compounds (condensed tannins, gallotannins, and flavonols) and contributed to the strong
antioxidant and cytotoxic activity of chokeberry fruits. In contrast, bare soil favored
synthesis of other phenolic compounds (total phenols, flavonoids, anthocyanins, flavan-3-
ols and phenolic acids). Principal Component Analysis (PCA) revealed the effect of
cultivation systems on the biochemical composition of fruits. Results showed that
cultivation systems had a significant influence on soil characteristics in the chokeberry
orchard as well as on the biochemical composition of chokeberry fruits, which indicates
different pathways of metabolite synthesis under various cultivation practices.

AB - To identify and compare the differences in productivity and fruit quality of strawberry cultivar ‘Senga Sengana’ grown in open field and protected area fruits were harvested in 2021 in the region of Western Serbia. The yield, physical (fruit weight, dimensions, firmness), chemical (total soluble solids (TSS), total (TS) and invert sugars (IS), sucrose (SUC), titrable acids (TA), pH, sweetness index (TS/TA)) and nutritive traits (vitamin C, total phenols, total anthocyanins and antioxidative activity) of the fruits were analysed. Significantly higher yield per area unit, fruit weight and length, TSS, sugars, organic acids, sweetness index and nutritive quality were recorded in the fruits from protected area. Growing strawberries in a protected area, in addition to ensuring a safe yield, also has a positive effect on both the sensory and nutritional composition of the fruit.

AB - Apple (Malus×domestica Borkh.) is one of the most represented and economically most important fruit species. There are a number of calcium-containing products on the market that
can be applied before or after harvest to delay fruit maturation with no negative effects on consumers. The paper also presents the results of a study on the effects of a foliar application of calcium chloride (ʻStopitʼ) on the physical and basic fruit quality properties of the apple cultivar ʻGlosterʼ. The study was conducted for two consecutive years, and the changes in fruit weight, firmness, dimensions, soluble solids, total sugars, and organic acids content were studied during harvest and storage periods of 60 and 120 days in a regular cold chamber. Fruits treated with calcium chloride had higher fruit weight, height, width, firmness, total sugars, and ratio between total sugars and organic acids (206.0 g, 70.6 mm, 77.8 mm, 7.6 kg cm-2, 10.4%, and 21.4, respectively). The storage period had a significant effect on all fruit parameters studied, except for the content of total acids. The highest values of physical properties were mesured at the moment of storage, soluble solids content after 60 days (13.2° Brix), and total sugars (10.9%) and sugar/acid ratio (22.3) after 120 days of storage. Foliar application of CaCl2 during vegetation can be an effective measure to avoid losses in apple fruit quality during storage in the regular cold chamber.

AB - Despite Serbia being among the world's largest producers of plums with about 5% of production,
seedlings of 'Mirobalan' (Prunus cerasifera Ehrh.), characterized by a number of disadvantages,
represent the most commonly used plum rootstock. Considering the intensification of plum
production this study was aimed to characterize by yield and content of sugars and organic acids,
as well as phenols in plum cultivar 'Čačanska Lepotica' grafted on four vegetative rootstocks
(three medium vigor 'Docera 6', 'Wavit' and 'Weiwa' and one low vigor rootstock 'Dospina 235')
during two years (2017‒2018). According to the analyses of primary metabolites, the harvest
season effect was more predominant than the rootstock. Fruits harvested in 2017 were the best
results for total sugars and sugars/acids ratio (94.0 g/kg FW and 5.6, respectively) while fruits
harvested in 2018 had significantly higher phenol content (253.8 mg/kg FW). The dominant
phenolic compounds in plum fruits were phenolic acids and flavanols, while flavonols and
anthocyanins were determined in a lower concentration. The results demonstrate a significant
influence of rootstock on phenolic content in plum fruits. All tested phenolic groups were
significantly higher in the fruit of 'Čačanska Lepotica' grafted on 'Docera 6' and 'Dospina 235' in
both tested years, except the content of flavonols and anthocyanins in grafting combination with
rootstocks 'Wavit' and 'Weiwa' in 2017. In order to improve the intensity of plum growing and
the nutritional quality of fruits, 'Docera 6', a rootstock with hypersensitive resistance to Plum pox
virus (PPV), can be recommended for further expansion in agroecological conditions of southeast
Europe.

AB - In recent years, the demand for strawberries on the world market is constantly increasing, primarily due to their unique taste and health benefits. Fruits produced without the use of agrochemicals, which are at the same time safer, more nutritious and healthier, are in particular demand. These forced researchers to identify ecologically safe techniques that can satisfy consumer preferences. Although many aspects of environmental methodologies in strawberry cultivation have already been investigated, the application of biosafe fertilizers and/or pesticides which greatly contribute to healthy food is still rare. Based on this background, a new formula of the liquid vermicompost-based product (VCMo), consisting of microbes from Trichoderma, Bacillus, Pseudomonas and Azotobacter genera, suitable for both nutrition and protection, has been developed at the Fruit Research Institute Čačak (Republic of Serbia). Its effectiveness was assessed by measuring the degree of gray mould (Botrytis cinerea Pers.) infection and changes in quality (fruit weight and dimensions, total phenolic content and antioxidant activity) of strawberry fruits. In addition, its efficacy has been compared to the biodegradable product (FitoBotryfun) and a combination of synthetic fungicides (Switch+ Signum). As regards the control of gray mould, the highest efficacy was achieved by the Switch+ Signum application, followed by VCMo, while the efficacy of FitoBotryfun was less satisfactory. On the other hand, the highest quality of the strawberry fruits was observed in VCMo treatment followed by FitoBotryfun and Switch+ Signum. The obtained results suggest that VCMo can be an alternative to chemical-based fungicides in B. cinerea control programme of strawberries. All this together qualifies VCMo as a promising biological treatment that meets the needs of both growers and consumers.

AB - The demand for food is expected to increase by up to 70% by 2050 due to the projected population of over 10 billion people. Conventional agricultural methods, which imply the application of synthetic fertilizers and pesticides, are unlikely to meet this demand. Therefore, there is a need for the intensification of agricultural production. However, the excessive use of synthetic fertilizers and chemically synthesized pesticides can have adverse effects on the environment, soil fertility, crop yields, human health, and food quality. Therefore, harmonizing plant nutrition and protection through sustainable principles in agriculture represents a major goal and challenge for agriculture in the 21st century. Innovative, sustainable, and environmentally safe solutions and bio-rational technologies such as the use of fertilizers and pesticides of biological origin need to be introduced. This paper provides a review of recent achievements in orchard nutrition and protection management by introducing a new product based on liquid biofertilizer. This biofertilizer is derived from vermicompost and enriched with different strains of beneficial microorganisms from Azotobacter, Bacillus, Pseudomonas, and Trichoderma genera, which contribute to increasing productivity, quality characteristics, and economic efficiency of production while simultaneously respecting ecological and health safety standards. The new formula includes a complete technological procedure and has been developed at the Fruit Research Institute, Čačak in the Republic of Serbia.

AB - Lack of appropriate fertilisers is a bottleneck in organic agriculture, which can lead to reduced yields and, consequently, reduced profitability. Therefore, the aim of this study was to develop a new formulation of a vermicompost-based biopreparation (VCMo) and to investigate the effects of this product on the composition of primary and secondary metabolites of the fruit of organically cultivated strawberries (Fragaria × ananassa Duch. cv Senga Sengana). Sugars, organic acids and phenolic compounds in strawberry fruit cultivated with three application modes of VCMo (rhizosphere inoculation (RI); combination of rhizosphere inoculation and foliar spraying (RI+FS); and foliar spraying (FS)) and a control (untreated soil and plants) were characterised and quantified by HPLC with a refractive index detector for sugars and organic acids, and HPLCDAD-MSn for phenolic compounds. Strawberry fruit obtained from plants exposed to the combined application of rhizosphere inoculation and foliar spraying showed the highest concentrations of total sugars and total organic acids. There were no significant differences between the methods of VMCo application for concentrations of phenolic acids, but rhizosphere inoculation on its own resulted in the highest total concentration of the five groups of flavonoids identified (anthocyanins, flavanols, flavanones, flavonols and flavones). The results of the study suggested that rhizosphere inoculation with VCMo on its own or in combination with foliar spraying could be а useful tool for organic strawberry cultivation, contributing to the production of healthy and good quality fruit at the same time as providing opportunities to reduce environmental pollution.

AB - Black fruits, especially blackberries and black currants, are highly appreciated by consumers due to their nutraceutical properties, which have reported health benefits. This study aimed to assess the fruit quality of the blackberry (cv. ‘Čačanska Bestrna’) and black currant (cv. ‘Čačanska Crna’) created at the Fruit Research Institute, Čačak (Republic of Serbia) by evaluating basic quality parameters (fruit weight, soluble solids), and content of primary (sugars and organic acids) and secondary (phenolic compounds) metabolites. Additionally, the study examined the quality of frozen and long-term frozen storage (6, 9, and 12 months). The results showed that ‘Čačanska Crna’ contained a high level of total soluble solids (15.23 Bx), sugars (93.06 mg g-1), and a high index of sweetness (159.48) as well as a high content of acids (34.35 mg g-1) in the fruit. Both species were found to contain forty-seven phenolic compounds, including phenolic acids, flavanols, and anthocyanins, analyzed using high performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS). ‘Čačanska Bestrna’ had the highest amounts of phenolic acids (66.85 mg 100 g-1) and flavanols (53.99 mg 100 g-1), whereas ‘Čačanska Crna’ showed the highest levels of flavonols (8.57 mg 100 g-1) and anthocyanins (139.11 mg 100 g-1). Furthermore, the study revealed that anthocyanins were the most abundant phenolic group in both blackberries and black currants, and their levels remained constant during frozen storage. The sugar content in both species remained unchanged, while the acid concentration increased over time in blackberries but remained consistent in black currants. Overall, the findings highlight the superior phenolic content, particularly anthocyanins, of the cultivars with black fruits selected in Serbia. These cultivars have great commercial potential for the fresh market and processing. Moreover, the study suggests that frozen storage is an effective method for preserving their quality and beneficial properties.

AB - Blackberry (Rubus subgen. Rubus Watson) cultivar 'Čačanska Bestrna' has long been the most commonly grown blackberry cultivar in the Republic of Serbia, owing to its high adaptability to respective agro-environmental conditions. In recent years, in order to increase the production of biologically valuable food, the fruit growing technology has been directed towards the concepts of integral and organic production. Blackberry grey mould (Botrytis cinerea Pers.) is an economically significant agent of the disease, which during the ripening phase reduces fruit yield by about 30% each year. In this regard, the efficacy of the preventive and curative influence of foliar applied FitoBotryfun was examined for two consecutive years. Incidence of grey mould (degree of infection), morphometric traits (fruit weight and dimensions), chemical traits (soluble solids content, total and inverted sugars, and sucrose content) and fruit mineral nutrient content [macro-(Ca, Mg) and microelements (Fe, Mn, Cu, Zn)] were recorded. A high variability was found in the degree of infection between the different disease management practices (organic and conventional) and significant differences were found in the contents of sugars, Ca, Mg and Fe in the fruit. The variations over the years were observed for the same quality traits, except for fruit height. The results obtained suggest that the foliar application of FitoBotryfun during the growing season can be effective in reducing losses in the quality of blackberry fruit during ripening as well as negative effects of conventional control methods on human health and the environment.

AB - Grey mould (Botrytis cinerea Pers.) is one of the most important strawberry diseases, which in conventional farming is successfully controlled by chemical fungicides during flowering. Yet, in organic farming, due to the unavailability of appropriate non-fungicidal methods, its control is one of the biggest problems that can often cause a significant reduction in production and profitability. Thus, the study is aimed to investigate the possibility of using some biological alternatives (soil microorganisms) for controlling grey mould disease in strawberry plantings. For that purpose, in Fruit Research Institute Čačak (Republic of Serbia) a new formula of biopreparation (VCMo) consisting of microbes from Trichoderma, Bacillus, Pseudomonas and Azotobacter genera has been developed. The VCMo was applied at the beginning, full and the end of flowering stage. In three harvest times (beginning, middle and the end), its efficiency has been investigated by controlling B. cinerea of the fruits of organically cultivated ʻAlbaʼ strawberries (Fragaria x ananassa Duch). Besides, yield, physical fruit properties and soluble solids have been monitored also. Strawberry fruits obtained from plants exposed to VCMo application showed a lower incidence of grey mould (38.29%). In addition, degree of infection has been decreased from the beginning till the end of harvest (55.08, 49.97 and 39.13%, respectively). Higher yield of usable fruits was observed under VCMo application, especially in the middle harvest time (148.31 g/plant). The fruit weight and dimensions, as expected, varied under the influence of the harvest date. The application of VCMo showed a positive effect on the fruit weight in the middle and at the end of the harvest (28.61, 20.81 g), which can also be said for soluble solids (5.88 and 6.58 oBrix). Contrary, the fruit firmness was the highest at the beginning of the harvest (1.47 kg cm2).

abstract = "Grey mould (Botrytis cinerea Pers.) is one of the most important strawberry diseases, which in conventional farming is successfully controlled by chemical fungicides during flowering. Analizirani su vegetativni, generativni potencijal, masa i dimenzije ploda, indeks oblika ploda i sadržaj rastvorljive suve materije tokom osam termina berbe.
AB - The most common growing system of strawberries in Serbia is open field cultivation on beds covered with foils and a drip irrigation system. Average yields per area are low compared to countries with developed strawberry production. Low yields are a consequence of the frequent occurrence of late spring frosts during flowering and rainy periods during fruit ripening, as well as the establishment of plantations with runners originating from native orchards. In order to investigate and compare the productivity and fruit quality of strawberry cultivar ‘Alba’ depending on plant types, a field trial was carried out during 2020 with two types of planting material: ‘frigo’ plants - B category (FP) and fresh runners (FR) rooted in pots originating from native plantations. The vegetative, generative potential, fruit weight, dimensions, shape index and content of soluble solids during eight harvests were analyzed. Significantly higher values of vegetative potential (the number of crowns and leaves per rosette) were determined in FR (4.2 and 23.8, respectively) compare to FP (1.6 and 9.8, respectively). Despite significantly higher values parameters of generative potential (number of fruiting stalks and flowers per plant) in FR, FP showed 50% higher yield per plant (427.3 g) related to FR (283.8 g). FP had a constantly high fruit weight and dimensions during all harvests, while in FR there was a trend of decreasing fruit weight in the second half of the harvest period. The high soluble solids content was recorded during harvest time in FP. Bearing in mind the obtained results, ‘frigo’ plants should be used to establish an intensive strawberry plantation in order to achieve and maintain an optimal balance between growth and yield and prevent the reduction of commercial yields and fruit quality.

AB - A large number of wild relatives of cultivated fruits in Serbia indicates a significant biological and primarily genetic diversity of wild berry species. Wild berry species are rich in phenols that are usually associated with health benefits due to their antioxidant capacity. The purpose of this work was to investigate the content of total anthocyanins and total phenols of wild berry species fruit extracts originating from an area of mountain Kopaonik (south Serbia): strawberry (Fragaria vesca L. and Fragaria viridis L.), raspberry (Rubus ideaeus L. and Rubus sahatilis L.), blackberry (Rubus fructicosus L.), red currant (Ribes petraeum L.) and blueberry (Vaccinium myrtillus L.) as well as their antioxidant capacity. Blueberry and blackberry were characterized by the highest presence of anthocyanins (3.71 and 1.33 g C3G kg-1 FW). The blueberry extract (Vaccinium myrtillus L.) was also the richest in the content of total phenols (4.94 g GAE kg-1 FW) followed by an extract of strawberry (Fragaria viridis L.) and blackberry (Rubus fructicosus L.). The antioxidant effects of the sample extracts were evaluated through DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) antiradical assay which is shown that raspberry species Rubus sahatilis L. had significantly higher antioxidative activity (244.87 mM TE mL-1) compared to other examined wild berry species. However, despite the very high content of anthocyanins and phenols, the antioxidant capacity of blueberry extract was the lowest (211.78 mM TE mL-1 ). Inconclusion, the present research increased the knowledge about the nutritive properties of Serbian wild berry species in order to support their conservation and use in the breeding programs of small fruits for choosing berry fruits with a high content of health-promoting properties.

Ispitivanje kvaliteta ploda maline izvršeno je utvrđivanjem fizičkih (težina ploda, dimenzije, broj koštunica u plodu) i hemijskih osobina ploda [sadržaj rastvorljivih suvih materija (RSM), ukupnih (UŠ) i invertnih šećera (IŠ), saharoze (S), ukupnih kiselina (UK), ukupnih fenola (UF), ukupnih antocijana (UA) i ukupnog antioksidativnog kapaciteta ploda (UAK)] ispitivanih sorti. Najveću masu ploda, visinu i sadržaj RSM, UŠ, IŠ i S imala je sorta ‘Tulameen’, dok je sorte ‘Willamette’ pokazala lošije rezultate u pogledu mase ploda, širine, RSM, UŠ i IŠ. Sa druge strane, pomenuta sortase odlikovala značajno većim vrednostima UK (1,97%), S (0,97%) i UА (43,53 mg 100g-1 sv.m.) u poređenju sa ostalim ispitivanim sortama maline. U plodovima sorte ‘Fertodi Zamatos’ utvrđene su više vrednosti mase ploda, dimenzija i sadržaja RSM (10,3%), UK (1,63%), UŠ (5,88%), IŠ (5,22%) i UF (0,165 mg 100g-1 sv.m. ). ‘Amira’ i ‘Fertodi Zamatos’ su imale značajno veći sadržaj UA i UF, što je rezultiralo i najvećim identičnim vrednostima UAK (0,183 mmol TE 100 g-1 sv.m.) ploda u poređenju sa ostalim ispitivanim sortama maline.
AB - The raspberry (Rubus idaeus L.) production in the Republic of Serbia is characterized by decades of absolute dominance of the cultivar ‘Willamette’, which is owing to high adaptability of the cultivar to respective agro-environmental conditions. Bearing in mind the fact that the demands of the world market are changing and that they are aimed at increasing fresh consumption and the range of raspberry products, it is necessary to innovate the assortment, i.e. introduce cultivars that, in addition to high yields, are characterized by fruits of a wide range of sensory and nutritive properties. To identify and compare the differences in fruit quality, five raspberry cultivars (‘TulaMagic’, ‘Tulameen’, ‘Amira’, ‘Fertodi Zamatos’, and ‘Willamette’) were harvested during three harvests in 2020 at Arilje region(Milićevo Selo). For evaluation of raspberry fruit quality, the physical (fruit weight, dimensions, number of drupelets within a fruit) and chemical properties [soluble solids content (SSC), total (TS) and invert sugars (IS), sucrose (SC), titrable acids (TA)] as well as nutritive values [total phenols content (TPC)], total anthocyanins (TAN) and antioxidative capacity (TAC) of the fruits were analyzed. The highest fruit weight, height, and the highest content of SSC, TS, IS, SC were recorded in the cultivar ‘Tulameen’, while the cultivar ‘Willamette’ showed worse results in terms of fruit weight, width, SSC, TS, IS. On the other hand abovementioned cultivar had significantly higher TA (1.97%), SC (0.97%), and TAN (43.53 mg 100g-1 FW) compared to the other cultivars. The higher values of fruit weight, dimensions, and content of SSC (10.3%), TA (1.63%), TS (5.88%), IS (5.22%), and TPC (0.165 mg 100g-1 FW) were registered in the samples of ‘Fertodi Zamatos’. ‘Amira’ and ‘Fertodi Zamatos’ had a significantly higher content of TAN and TPC, which resulted in the highest TAC (0.183 mmol TE 100g-1 FW) of these cultivars compared to the other tested cultivars.

Najveću masu ploda, visinu i sadržaj RSM, UŠ, IŠ i S imala je sorta ‘Tulameen’, dok je sorte ‘Willamette’ pokazala lošije rezultate u pogledu mase ploda, širine, RSM, UŠ i IŠ. Sa druge strane, pomenuta sortase odlikovala značajno većim vrednostima UK (1,97%), S (0,97%) i UА (43,53 mg 100g-1 sv.m.) u poređenju sa ostalim ispitivanim sortama maline. U plodovima sorte ‘Fertodi Zamatos’ utvrđene su više vrednosti mase ploda, dimenzija i sadržaja RSM (10,3%), UK (1,63%), UŠ (5,88%), IŠ (5,22%) i UF (0,165 mg 100g-1 sv.m. ). ‘Amira’ i ‘Fertodi Zamatos’ su imale značajno veći sadržaj UA i UF, što je rezultiralo i najvećim identičnim vrednostima UAK (0,183 mmol TE 100 g-1 sv.m.) ploda u poređenju sa ostalim ispitivanim sortama maline., The raspberry (Rubus idaeus L.) production in the Republic of Serbia is characterized by decades of absolute dominance of the cultivar ‘Willamette’, which is owing to high adaptability of the cultivar to respective agro-environmental conditions. ‘Amira’ and ‘Fertodi Zamatos’ had a significantly higher content of TAN and TPC, which resulted in the highest TAC (0.183 mmol TE 100g-1 FW) of these cultivars compared to the other tested cultivars.",

AB - A large number of wild relatives of cultivated fruits in Serbia indicates a significant biological
and primarily genetic diversity of wild berry species. Wild berry species are rich in phenols that
are usually associated with health benefits due to their antioxidant capacity. The purpose of this
work was to investigate the content of total anthocyanins and total phenols of wild berry species
fruit extracts originating from an area of mountain Kopaonik (South Serbia): strawberry
(Fragaria vesca L. and Fragaria viridis L.), raspberry (Rubus ideaeus L. and Rubus sahatilis L.),
blackberry (Rubus fructicosus L.), red currant (Ribes petraeum L.) and blueberry (Vaccinium
myrtillus L.) as well as their antioxidant capacity. Blueberry and blackberry were characterized
by the highest presence of anthocyanins (3.71 and 1.33 g C3G/kg FW). The blueberry extract
(Vaccinium myrtillus L.) was also the richest in the content of total phenols (4.94 g GAE/kg FW)
followed by an extract of strawberry (Fragaria viridis L.) and blackberry (Rubus fructicosus L.).
The antioxidant effects of the sample extracts were evaluated through DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-
picrylhydrazyl) antiradical assay which is shown that raspberry species Rubus sahatilis L. had
significantly higher antioxidative activity (244.87 mM TE/mL) compared to other examined wild
berry species. However, despite the very high content of anthocyanins and phenols, the
antioxidant capacity of blueberry extract was the lowest (211.78 mM TE/mL). In conclusion, the
present research increased the knowledge about the nutritive properties of Serbian wild berry
species in order to support their conservation and use in the breeding programs of small fruits for
choosing berry fruits with a high content of health-promoting properties.
