AB  - What often happens that weeds are not controlled after harvesting
the cultivated crop. Thus, they continue to grow unhindered on agricultural
land, becoming dangerous hosts for a large number of plant diseases and
sources of constant infection. So far, there have been no systematic studies of
the mycopopulation of weed seeds in Serbia. In this paper, we present the
results of preliminary research. Weed seeds samples were collected during the
summer and autumn vegetation of 2023. Isolation was performed using
standard phytopathological methods. In these studies of the mycopopulation of
weed seeds, a total of 500 seeds originating from ten weed species were
examined. Seven genera of fungi were determined in this way: Penicillium,
Fusarium, Alternaria, Cladosporium, Epicoccum, Rhizopus and Mucor

Cryopreservation-based strategy for PPV eradication in autochthonous plums: insights from Fruit Research Institute Čačak

AB  - The importance of conserving plant species, particularly those crucial for agriculture, has surged
to ensure sustainable utilization of biological resources and prevent further loss of plant diversity. Cryopreservation, the most advanced method for plant conservation, offers promise in this
regard. It can be employed for conservation per
se, or as a potential tool (cryotherapy) for pathogens elimination from infected plants, particularly viruses that threaten agricultural productivity. In the recent study, two vitrification-based
cryopreservation methods, D and V cryo-plate,
were evaluated for their efficacy in eradicating
plum pox virus (PPV) from autochthonous plum
cultivars ‘Crvena Ranka’ and ‘Belošljiva’, widely
present in the Balkan region. A total of 111 pool
samples of in vitro shoots of plums ‘Belošljiva’
and ‘Crvena Ranka’ were tested (65 and 46 samples, respectively). Each sample consisted of an
average of 10 plants, in total about 1100 plants.
Health status of in vitro shoots originated from
both control (non-frozen explants) and cryopreserved explants of infected plums were continuously tested during multiplication for the PPV
presence with conventional reverse transcription
polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). To evaluate
these results and obtain the highest efficiency of
detection, all samples were further tested using
Real-time PCR (qPCR). Using RT-PCR, the PPV was
detected in 67 out of 111 tested samples: in 39
samples of plum ‘Belošljiva’ and 28 of plum ‘Crvena Ranka’. Using a qPCR assay, PPV was confirmed
in 82 tested samples. Effective PPV elimination
from ‘Crvena Ranka’ was achieved through three
cryo-treatments, while neither method (D and
V-cryoplate) nor the applied treatments led to
PPV elimination in ‘Belošljiva’. The qPCR assay
demonstrated higher sensitivity compared to
conventional RT-PCR, highlighting its potential
utility in such assessments. Our findings supported the exceptional specificity and sensitivity of
the qPCR technique in detecting PPV in in vitro
shoots of the plums ‘Belošljiva’ and ‘Crvena Ranka’ post-cryotherapy.

Molecular characterization of plum pox virus isolates in apricot in Serbia

AB  - Plum pox virus (PPV), a potyvirus from the family Potyviridae, is the most detrimental virus of stone fruit species, causing Sharka disease. PPV can significantly decrease fruit quality and yield in sensitive cultivars. It was reported for the first time in Serbia on plums in 1935. Out of the ten identified, only three major PPV strains are present in Serbia: PPV-M, PPV-D, and PPV-Rec. To explore the occurrence and presence of PPV strains in apricot in Serbia, field surveys were carried out from 2008 to 2022. Visual inspections confirmed that a very low percentage of the trees exhibit the leaf symptoms of Sharka. A total of 282 fresh leaf samples were collected from different locations across the country. Leaf samples were analyzed by immunocapture - reverse transcription - polymerase chain reaction (IC-RT-PCR) using strain-specific primers targeting two genomic regions (Nter CP and CI). PPV was confirmed in 86 samples (30.5%). PPV-Rec was the most prevalent strain (52 samples), followed by PPV-M (21 samples) and PPV-D (19 samples). Mixed infection (PPV-Rec + PPV-D) was confirmed in six samples. Although widely present in plums, PPV was less frequently found in apricots in Serbia. The presented results confirmed the wide distribution and dominant presence of PPV-Rec isolates in apricots in Serbia. The genetic diversity of the PPV isolates was evaluated by sequencing a PCR fragment located in the CterNib-Nter CP and CI coding regions for selected isolates.

Najznačajnije virusne bolesti maline

AB  - Do danas je u svetskoj literaturi opisano preko 30 virusnih bolesti maline. Simptomi ovih obolјenja se ispolјavaju na različitim bilјnim organima. Najuočlјiviji su na listovima i plodovima. Na listovima se javlјa mozaik, crtičavost, šarenilo, hloroza i žutilo liske, nekroza lisnih nerava, uvijanje liske, skraćenje lisnih nerava i druge deformacije. Plodovi zaraženih bilјaka osetlјivih sorti su sitniji, sa manjim brojem koštunica i deformisani što smanjuje njihovu komercijalnu vrednost.
Ekonomski najznačajnije virusi maline su: virus nekroze crne maline (black raspberry necrosis virus, BRNV), virus žute mrežavosti rubusa (Rubus yellow net virus, RYNV), virus šarenila lista maline (raspberry leaf mottle virus, RLMV), virus žbunaste kržlјavosti maline (raspberry bushy dwarf virus, RBDV) i virus mrlјavosti lista maline (raspberry leaf blotch virus, RLBV).
Od navedenih virusa, u Srbiji je najrasprostranjeniji virus mrlјavosti lista maline koji je utvrđen u svim lokalitetima gde se gaji malina. Simptomi koje izaziva RLBV (šarenilo lišća, mrlјavost i pegavost) su identični sa oštećenjima koje prouzrokuje eriofidna grinja lista maline (Phyllocoptes gracilis). Kod sorte Vilamet u uslovima jake zaraze može dovesti do smanjenja mase ploda do 30%. Po značaju, izdvaja se i virus žbunaste kržlјavosti maline koji kod osetlјivih sorti (Miker) uslovlјava pojavu rehulјavih plodova. Virus nekroze crne maline ne izaziva vidlјive simptome kod komercijalno gajenih sorti crvene maline, a kod nas je dominantno potvrđen kod sorte Fertodi zamatos. Virus žute mrežavosti rubusa i virus šarenila lista maline su prisutni u velikom broju malinjaka, ali u pojedinačnim infekcijama ne izazivaju vidlјive simptome na sortama maline koje se gaje kod nas. Mešane infekcije, sa dva ili više virusa, su česte u malinjacima i kod tolerantnih sorti mogu izazvati simptome na listovima i plodovima i dovesti do smanjenja prinosa. Latentni virus maline (raspberry latent virus, RpLV) je osim u SAD, potvrđen samo u Srbiji. RpLV u mešanim infekcijama sa RBDV i RLMV može izazvati pojavu rehulјavih plodova. Rehulјavost plodova je sve češća pojava u malinjacima u našoj zemlјi, a uzroci su genetske prirode i/ili virusne infekcije. U toku su ispitivanja primarnog uzroka ove pojave.  
Virusne bolesti se ne mogu lečiti i osnovne mere kontrole su: korišćenje zdravog sadnog materijala, prostorna izolacija zasada, izbor otpornih i tolerantnih sorti, krčenje i uništavanje zaraženih bilјaka i kontrola vektora.

Plodovi zaraženih bilјaka osetlјivih sorti su sitniji, sa manjim brojem koštunica i deformisani što smanjuje njihovu komercijalnu vrednost.Ekonomski najznačajnije virusi maline su: virus nekroze crne maline (black raspberry necrosis virus, BRNV), virus žute mrežavosti rubusa (Rubus yellow net virus, RYNV), virus šarenila lista maline (raspberry leaf mottle virus, RLMV), virus žbunaste kržlјavosti maline (raspberry bushy dwarf virus, RBDV) i virus mrlјavosti lista maline (raspberry leaf blotch virus, RLBV).Od navedenih virusa, u Srbiji je najrasprostranjeniji virus mrlјavosti lista maline koji je utvrđen u svim lokalitetima gde se gaji malina. Simptomi koje izaziva RLBV (šarenilo lišća, mrlјavost i pegavost) su identični sa oštećenjima koje prouzrokuje eriofidna grinja lista maline (Phyllocoptes gracilis). Kod sorte Vilamet u uslovima jake zaraze može dovesti do smanjenja mase ploda do 30%. Po značaju, izdvaja se i virus žbunaste kržlјavosti maline koji kod osetlјivih sorti (Miker) uslovlјava pojavu rehulјavih plodova. Virus nekroze crne maline ne izaziva vidlјive simptome kod komercijalno gajenih sorti crvene maline, a kod nas je dominantno potvrđen kod sorte Fertodi zamatos. Virus žute mrežavosti rubusa i virus šarenila lista maline su prisutni u velikom broju malinjaka, ali u pojedinačnim infekcijama ne izazivaju vidlјive simptome na sortama maline koje se gaje kod nas. Mešane infekcije, sa dva ili više virusa, su česte u malinjacima i kod tolerantnih sorti mogu izazvati simptome na listovima i plodovima i dovesti do smanjenja prinosa. Latentni virus maline (raspberry latent virus, RpLV) je osim u SAD, potvrđen samo u Srbiji. RpLV u mešanim infekcijama sa RBDV i RLMV može izazvati pojavu rehulјavih plodova. Rehulјavost plodova je sve češća pojava u malinjacima u našoj zemlјi, a uzroci su genetske prirode i/ili virusne infekcije. U toku su ispitivanja primarnog uzroka ove pojave.  Virusne bolesti se ne mogu lečiti i osnovne mere kontrole su: korišćenje zdravog sadnog materijala, prostorna izolacija zasada, izbor otpornih i tolerantnih sorti, krčenje i uništavanje zaraženih bilјaka i kontrola vektora.",

AB  - ‘Čačanska Rodna’ is very fruitful and has a tendency to overcrop. Therefore, for its successful growing, pruning is recommended as a mandatory measure. Regardless of the pruning intensity, a larger or smaller proportion of small fruits (<25 g) are always present on the tree. Due to their small size and inappropriate color, such fruits are not suitable for drying, fresh consumption and freezing. In Serbia, such small fruits are used for the production of plum spirit. The traditional method of plum spirit production includes crushing the fruits and spontaneous fermentation of the mash with stones, followed by double distillation, which results in overexpressed and often unpleasant stone-like aroma and, in the case of long and inadequate storage of the fermented mash, an acidic taste of plum spirit too. The aim of the study was to examine whether modifications of traditional plum spirit production method, which include a shorter storage time of the fermented mash, removal the stones before alcoholic fermentation, pulping of fruits and use of selected yeasts, can improve the smell and taste of plum spirit obtained from small fruits of cv ‘Čačanska Rodna’. The plum spirits obtained by six different processing methods, including the traditional one, differed significantly in terms of the contents of 21 out of 24 analyzed volatile compounds, as well as of sensory ratings. The plum spirit produced from the mash of crushed stoneless plums, spontaneously fermented and distilled immediately after finished alcoholic fermentation was evaluated with the highest sensory score, even higher than the plum spirits obtained by the most commonly used method in modern distilleries today (spirits from the pulped stoneless plums, fermented with selected yeasts and distilled immediately after finished fermentation). By choosing adequate processing method, excellent quality plum spirit can be obtained even from the small fruits of cv ‘Čačanska Rodna’.

AB  - Grapevine, a significant fruit crop globally, is a host of various
viruses that negatively affect yield, plant vigor, and fruit quality. Multiplex
polymerase chain reaction (mPCR) offers the ability to detect numerous viruses
simultaneously. Our study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of mRT-PCR for
the detection of nine grapevine viruses in Serbia, including: grapevine fanleaf
virus, grapevine leafroll-associated viruses 1, 2, and 3, grapevine rupestris stem
pitting associated virus, grapevine virus A, grapevine virus B, grapevine fleck
virus, and arabis mosaic virus. This study confirms mRT-PCR as an efficient
method for simultaneous detection of multiple grapevine viruses

AB  - The aim of this study was to determine the changes in chemical composition of fresh red raspberry ‘Willamette’ fruits caused by the presence of raspberry leaf blotch emaravirus (RLBV). In three experimental orchards of ‘Willamette’ raspberry, fruits were harvested from RLBV-free and RLBV-infected plants in 2019 and 2020. Fruits were collected at appropriate maturity stages and further analyzed in terms of total phenolics, total anthocyanins, and selected individual phenolics. In all three experimental orchards, the phenolic profiles of the infected and uninfected fruit samples were considerably different during both studied years. Nonetheless, the intensity of the modifications varied greatly depending on the location and harvest year. Statistical analysis revealed that the influence of RLBV infection on the studied features was undeniable, although the influences of weather conditions and soil composition outweighed the influence of RLBV. Taking into consideration all the experimental and statistical data, it can be concluded that RLBV had an impact on the phenolic profile of raspberry ‘Willamette’ fruits, while sensitivity to environmental conditions and soil composition is emphasized.

to stone and small fruit trees, pears and other pome fruits are infected by a lesser number of viruses and viroids. The majority of commercial pear cultivars do not exhibit symptoms on their leaves, fruits, or other plant parts due to viruses. Only foliage and fruits show symptoms in susceptible cultivars. Apple stem pitting virus (ASPV), apple stem grooving virus (ASGV), apple chlorotic leaf spot virus (ACLSV), and apple mosaic virus (ApMV) are widespread and economically significant pear viruses. Pear blister canker viroid (PBCVd) and apple scar skin viroid (ASSVd) are the most dangerous viroids infecting pears.

AB  - Malina (Rubus spp.) duži niz godina spada u grupu ekonomski najznačajnijih vrsta
voća u Republici Srbiji. Međutim, jedan od najvećih problema u proizvodnje ove kulture je kontrola zakorovljenosti. Naročito je veliki izazov u tek zasnovanim zasadima maline. Korovi se u prvoj godini u međurednom i rednom prostoru u malinjacima isključivo eliminišu mehaničkim putem (Leposavić, 2023). Smanjenje zakorovljenosti uopšteno se postiže primenom preventivnih i agrotehnikih mera, primenom plodoreda, pravilnim izborom vrsta i sorti dr. Pored toga, poznavanje bioloških i ekoloških karakteristika, potom fiziologije korovskih vrsta čini polaznu osnovu u borbi protiv korova u mladim zasadima maline. Na osnovu boljeg razumevanja odnosa između korova i gajene biljke moguće je odrediti vreme i odgovarajući način suzbijanja korova. Cilj ovog rada je da se ukaže na diverzitet korovske flore u mladim zasadima maline
(Rubus spp.), budući da je dobro poznavanje taksonomskih kao i drugih bioloških karakteristika korova, osnovni preduslov za uspešno sprovođnje integralnih mera suzbijanja korova u konvencionalnoj i organskoj biljnoj proizvodnji. Floristika istraživanja obavljena su tokom vegetacionog peroda 2022. i 2023. godine u mladim zasadima maline (starosti prve do druge godine) sela Osreci-Kopaonik. Determinacija biljaka i pripadnost familijama data je prema Josifović-u (1971-1977), a pripadnost klasama prema Takhtajan-u (1997), dok je ekološka analiza korovske flore izvršena prema Kojić i sar. (1997). U mladim zasadima maline u selu Osreci zabelećeno je prisustvo ukupno 26 korovskih
vrsta (7 korovskih (segetalnih), 13 korovsko-ruderalnih, 1 ruderalna i 5 korova livada i pašnjaka). Većina konstatovanih korova cveta od juna do septembara. U konstatovanoj korovskoj flori dominiraju predstavnici klase Magnoliopsida (dikotile, širokolisni korovi) i to 24 vrste, dok su iz klase Liliopsida (monokotile, uskolisni korovi), prisutne samo dve vrste. Analiza životnih formi korova u zasadima maline pokazuje blagu dominaciju hemikriptofita (38,46%) u odnosu na geofite (30,77%) i terofite (26,92%). Zakorovljenost nije bila velika, jer je svakih dest do petnaest dana vršeno međuredno kultiviranje, a u redovima, oko biljaka, su ručno odstranjivani korovi. Bez obzira na mehaničko odstranjivanje korova diverzitet korovske flore nije bio zanemarljiv. U svim posmatranim mladim zasadima maline najučestaliji korovi su: Salvia verticillata L., Lathyrus latifolius L., Cirsium arvense (L.) Scop., Equisetum arvense L., Pteridium aquilinum (L.) Kuhn., Bilderdykia convolvulus (L.) Dum., Convolvulus arvensis L., Chenopodium album L.

Fitopatogene gljive na lucerki u Srbiji

AB  - Višegodišnja lucerka (Medicago sativa L.) se u prirodi javlјa kao gajena i kao divlјa
vrsta. Kao jedna od najstarijih i najvažnijih višegodišnjih krmnih bilјaka, lucerka ima potencijal da daje visok prinos krme odličnog kvaliteta. Relativno niski prinosi i kvalitet lucerke u Srbiji posledica su uticaja velikog broja
faktora među kojima biljni patogeni zauzimaju značajno mesto. U ovom radu su prikazani preliminarni rezultati proučavanja populacije fitopatogenih
gljiva na lucerki. Ukupno 625 uzoraka biljaka lucerke je prikupljeno periodu 2002. - 2019. godine u Srbiji sa lokaliteta: Čurug, Ašanja, Srpska Crnja, Farkaždin, Trnavci, Vraneši, Banatsko Karađorđevo, Aleksandrovo, Banovci, Markovac, Varvarin, Kobilje, Globoder, Bela Voda, Kloka, Davidovac i Dobričevo. Cele biljke su vizuelno pregledane radi detaljnog opisa simptoma oboljenja nakon čega je urađena standardna fitopatološka izolacija sa prelaza zdravog u obolelo tkivo na krompir dekstrozni agar (KDA) sa streptomicinom. Nakon inkubacije na 22°C i svetlosnom režimu 12 sati dan/12 sati noć, dobijene kulture su mikroskopski pregledane i izvršena je morfološka indentifikacija gljiva do nivoa roda pomoću standardnih ključeva. Provera patogenosti dobijenih izolata urađena je putem veštačke inokulacije sa
povredom biljnih delova. Biljke su inokulisane postavljanjem fragmenata micelije sa podlogom u povrede napravljene kopljastom iglom. Inokulacija je obavljena izolatima gljiva, starosti 7 dana, a inokulisane biljke su čuvane na temperaturi od 20 do 25°C. Rezultati rada su pokazali da su tipovi simptoma oboljenja na biljkama lucerke
dominantno prouzrokovani sledećim fitopatogenim gljivama: 1. Fusarium spp. (nekrotične pege i lezije na stablu lucerke); 2. Sclerotinia spp. (trulež prizemnog dela stabla); 3. Phoma spp. (pegavost stabla praćena pojavom piknida u okviru pege); 4. Colletotrichum spp. (nekroza i povijanje vrhova stabljike); 5. Fusarium spp. i Rhizoctonia spp. (nekroza korenovog sistema); 6. Verticillium spp. (obezbojavanje sprovodnog tkiva). Na osnovu morfoloških i patogenih odlika dobijenih izolata utvrđeno je da su u
Srbiji na lucerki dominantni prouzrokovači oboljenja iz grupe fitopatogenih gljiva pripadnici roda Colletotrichum, potom gljive iz rodova Fusarium, Verticillium, Rhizoctonia, Sclerotinia i Phoma.
Dobijeni rezultati ukazuju da je lucerka podložna napadu velikog broja fitopatogenih
gljiva koje mogu značajno da utiču na smanjenje prinosa i kvaliteta. Kako prouzrokovači oboljenja na lucerki nisu dovoljno proučavani u Srbiji, sprovedena
istraživanja predstavljaju značajan doprinos definisanju uloge fitopatogenih gljiva u simptomima koje prouzrokuju na lucerki, a sve u cilju doprinosa iznalaženju adekvatnih mera za njihovo uspešno suzbijanje.

Mikopopulacija na malini u Srbiji

AB  - Malina je višegodišnja listopadna bilјka, žbunastog ili polužbunastog rasta, sa
jednogodišnjim i dugim dvogodišnjim izdancima, koja pripada porodici ruža (Rosaceae). Malina duži niz godina spada u grupu ekonomski najznačajnijih vrsta voća u Republici Srbiji. Po prinosima na evropskom kontinentu se izdvajaju Rusija, Poljska, Srbija i Španija. Međutim, najveća robna proizvodnja se ostvaruje u Srbiji, jer se više od 95% svežih i prerađenih plodova maline plasira na svetskom tržištu. Svetska proizvodnja maline u 2019. godini iznosila je 684.000 tona. Sistematskih istraživanja mikopopulacije maline u Srbiji do sada nije bilo. U ovome
radu iznosimo rezultate preliminarnih istraživanja mikopopulacije maline poreklom iz Srbije. Uzorci su prikupljeni u vremenskom periodu jun - avgust od 2019. do 2022. godine. Ukupno je analizirano 28 nasumično skupljenih uzoraka sa tri lokaliteta u Srbiji (Čačak 8, Ivanjica 10, Arilje 10). Analizirani su koren i stablo. Fragmenti biljaka su pažljivo isprani pod tekućom vodom. Tako pripremljeni uzorci dezinfikovani su sa 1% natrijum-hipohloritom (NaOCl) 1 minut i isprani tri puta u sterilnoj destilovanoj vodi. Potom su prosušeni na sterilnom filter papiru i stavljani na krompir dekstrozni agar (KDA). U svaku Petri kutiju stavljeno je po 5 fragmenata uzetih po uzorku, u pet ponavljanja, i inkubirani u termostatu pri 24°C. Pregled se obavljao svaka 3 dana, a na većini uzoraka micelija se razvila oko biljnog fragmenta do 14. dana. Razvijene kolonije presejane su na novu KDA podlogu te je, nakon početnog porasta, vršni deo micelije ponovno presejan na KDA. Mikroskopski pregled obavljen je pomoću mikroskopa marke Olympus CX31. Morfološka identifikacija gljiva do roda obavljena je pomoću standardnih ključeva.Izračunata je učestalost izolacije u % prema formuli (Vrandečić i sar., 2011): broj kolonizovanih delova sa gljivama/ ukupan broj analiziranih biljnih delova x 100.
Ukupno je pregledano 700 fragmenta biljaka iz kojih je izolovano 6 rodova gljiva:
Didymella, Fusarium, Rhizoctonia, Verticillium, Alternaria i Epicoccum. Na biljkama iz kojih su izolovane gljive bili su jasno vidljivi makroskopski simptomi zaraze. Na svim biljkama sa kojih su izolovane gljive bili su jasno izraženi simptomi na stabljikama u vidu nekrotičnih pega i lezija. Sa tih biljaka izolovane su gljive iz roda Alternaria. Isto tako kod velikog broja biljaka, na stablima su uočene ljubičasto braon nekroze, u donjoj trećini stabla i iz tih biljaka su izolovane gljive iz roda Didymella. Na korenovom sistemu biljaka bili su prisutni simptomi u vidu svetlo do tamno braon nekroza i iz ovih biljaka su izolovane gljive iz rodova Fusarium i Rhizoctonia. Takođe kod pojedinih biljaka na korenovom sistemu uočeno je obezbojavanje sprovodnog tkiva i iz tih biljaka izolovane su gljive iz roda Verticillium. S оbzirоm nа veliki značaj maline kao voćne vrste, pоsеbnо za manje razvijena brdskо
plаninska pоdručija u Srbiјi, cilј оvоg rаdа bio је izolacija i morfološka dеtеrminаciја mikopopulacije nа malini rаdi јаsniјеg sаglеdаvаnjа prоblеmа u proizvodnji maline (izumirаnjе bilјаkа i smаnjеnjе prinоsа) kао pоslеdice prisustvа fitоpаtоgеnih glјivа.

AB  - Tri glavna (PPV-M, PPV-D i PPV-Rec), od deset poznatih sojeva virusa šarke šlјive
(plum pox virus, PPV) prisutno je u zasadima koštičavih vrsta voćaka u Srbiji. U zasadima šljive u našoj zemlji dominantno je prisutan PPV-Rec soj. Cilj ovog istraživanja je utvrđivanje vremenske i prostorne brzine širenja izolata PPV-Rec i PPV-D sojeva u zasadu šljive. Istraživanje je sprovedeno u oglednom zasadu šljive sorte Čačanska lepotica (400
stabala posađenih na rastojanju 4x3,5 m) koji je podignut 2008. godine. Po četiri stabla koja se nalaze u sredini zasada su veštački inokulisana sa odabranim PPV-D i PPV-Rec izolatima. Inokulisana stabla su predstavljala interni izvor infekcije. Sva stabla Prunus vrsta koja se nalaze u bližoj okolini voćnjaka su precizno mapirana, testirana na PPV i sva zaražena stabla su smatrana eksternim izvorom infekcije. Izolati PPV (interni i eksterni izvori zaraze) su delimično sekvencirani (n-ter CP region genoma) u cilju praćenja izvora zaraze u početnim godinama istraživanja. U periodu 2008−2023. godine sva stabla u voćnjaku su redovno vizuelno pregledana na
prisustvo simptoma i testirana IC-RT-PCR metodom na prisustvo PPV. Za detekciju i karakterizaciju izolata korišćeni su PPV-soj specifični prajmeri kojima je kroz četiri odvojene PCR reakcije omogućena karakterizacija izolata. Na početku eksperimenta relativni odnos stabala zaraženih PPV-D/PPV-Rec (uklјučujući interne i eksterne izvore) bio je 1:3. Prvi slučajevi zaraze u voćnjaku utvrđeni su 2009. godine (3 stabla), a rezultati sekvenciranja su potvrdili da zaraza potiče iz eksternih izvora. Sa intenzivnim porastom stabala, zaražena stabla u zasadu su postala primaran izvor novih infekcija koje su detektovane u narednim godinama. U 2023. godini potvrđeno je ukupno 326 zaraženih stabala: 29 PPV-D, 275 PPV-Rec i 22 stabla sa mešanom infekcijom (PPV-D+PPV-Rec). U 2023. godini relativni odnos zaraženih stabala u zasadu PPV-D/PPV-Rec je 1:9,4. Rezultati petnaestogodišnjih istraživanja su potvrdili da se PPV-Rec soj u zasadu šljive
značajno brže prenosi lisnim vašima od PPV-D soja. PPV-Rec izolati su se pokazali konkurentnijim i predstavljaju potencijalno veću opasnost za pojavu epidemija u zasadima šlјive u odnosu na PPV-D izolate.

AB  - The research conducted in this study aimed to investigate the impact of retorted beech charcoal on the shoot number and length of the highbush blueberry cultivar ‘Duke’. The experimental trial was established using randomized block system, consisting of three treatments and a control group. The control plants were potted in plastic containers filled with a mixture of sawdust and a substrate designed for commercial blueberry growing by Klasman. The plants in the treatment groups were potted similarly but with the addition of retorted beech charcoal in the root zone and around the root neck. Three different quantities of charcoal were used: 150 g (T1), 100 g (T2) and 50 g (T3). The number and length of shoots were monitored over the two-year period. The results indicated a positive influence of retorted beech charcoal on the number and length of shoots. Specifically, the plants in the treatment groups exhibited longer and more numerous shoots compared to the control group. Furthermore, the results varied depending on the quantity of retorted beech charcoal applied. The treatment with 150 g of retorted beech charcoal recorded the highest average length and number of shoots. Additionally, in both the treatment and control groups, a greater number and length of shoots were observed in the second year of the study.
AB  - Istraživanja obuhvaćena ovim radom sprovedena su u cilju proučavanja uticaja primene retortnog bukovog uglja na broj i dužinu jednogodišnjih prirasta kod biljaka visokožbunaste borovnice sorte Duke. Eksperimentalni ogled bio je postavljen po dizajnu slučajnog blok sistema i uključivao je tri tretmana i kontrolu. Biljke koje su poslužile kao kontola zasađene su u plastične saksije napunjene mešavinom strugotine i komercijalnog supstrata za gajenje borovnice čiji proizvođač Klasman. Biljke iz tretmana su posađene na isti način ali uz dodatak retortnog bukovog uglja u zoni korena i korenovog vrata biljaka u količini od 150 g (T1), 100 g (T2) i 50 g (T3). Broj i dužina jednogodišnjih prirasta praćeni su tokom dve godine. Dobijeni rezultati su pokazali da retortni bukov ugalj pozitivno utiče na broj i dužinu jednogodišnjih prirasta. Naime, biljke u tretmanu su imale veću dužinu i broj jednogodišnjih prirasta u odnosu na kontrolne biljke. Utvrđene su i razlike u dobijenim rezultatima u zavisnosti od primenjene količine retortnog bukovog uglja. Najveća prosečna dužina i broj jednogodišnjih prirasta zabeleženi su u tretmanu sa 150 g retortnog bukovog uglja. Veći broj i veća dužina jednogodišnjih prirasta u svim tretmanima i kontroli zabeleženi su u drugoj godini proučavanja.

AB  - Analizom korovske flore u mladim zasadima maline u selu Osreci zabeleženo je prisustvo ukupno 26 korovskih vrsta [7 korovskih (segetalnih), 13 korovsko-ruderalnih, 1 ruderalna i 5 korova livada i pašnjaka]. Većina evidentiranih korova cvetala je od juna do septembra. U konstatovanoj korovskoj flori dominirali su predstavnici klase Magnoliopsida (dikotile, širokolisni korovi) i to 24 vrste, dok su iz klase Liliopsida (monokotile, uskolisni korovi), bile prisutne samo dve vrste. Analiza životnih formi korova u zasadima maline pokazala je blagu dominaciju hemikriptofita (38,46%) u odnosu na geofite (30,77%) i terofite (26,92%). Zakorovljenost nije bila velika, jer je na svakih deset do petnaest dana vršeno međuredno kultiviranje, a u redovima, oko biljaka, su ručno odstranjivani korovi. Bez obzira na mehaničko odstranjivanje korova diverzitet korovske flore nije bio zanemarljiv. U svim posmatranim mladim zasadima maline najučestaliji korovi bili su: Salvia verticillata L., Lathyrus latifolius L., Cirsium arvense (L.) Scop., Equisetum arvense L., Pteridium aquilinum (L.) Kuhn., Polygonum convolvulus L., Convolvulus arvensis L., Chenopodium album L.
AB  - The analysis of the weed flora in the young raspberry plantations in the village of Osreci revealed the presence of a total of 26 weed species [7 weed (segetal), 13 weed-ruderal, 1 ruderal and 5 weeds of meadows and pastures]. The most of the identified weeds flowered from June to September. The recorded weed flora is dominated by representatives of the class Magnoliopsida (dicotyledons, broad-leaved weeds) with 24 species, while only two species are present from the class Liliopsida (monocotyledons, narrow-leaved weeds). The analysis of weed life forms in raspberry plantations shows a slight dominance of hemicryptophytes (38.46%) compared to geophytes (30.77%) and therophytes (26.92%). The number of weeds was not high, because inter-row cultivation was done every ten to fifteen days, and weeds were manually removed in the rows, around the plants. Regardless of the mechanical removal of weeds, the diversity of the weed flora was not negligible. In all observed young raspberry plantations, the most frequent weeds are: Salvia verticillata L., Lathyrus latifolius L., Cirsium arvense (L.) Scop., Equisetum arvense L., Pteridium aquilinum (L.) Kuhn., Polygonum convolvulus L., Convolvulus arvensis L., Chenopodium album L.

AB  - Nova sorta šlјive Divna priznata je Rešenjem Ministarstva polјoprivrede, šumarstva i vodoprivrede Republike Srbije br. 320-04-00841/2011-11 od 03.04.2018. godine.
Sorta Divna je nastala hibridizacijom sorti Stenlej (Stanley) i Čačanska Rana.
Stablo Divne je bujno sa gustom krošnjom. Cvetanje je pozno, istovremeno sa sortom Stanley. Rano stupa u fazu pune rodnosti i odlikuje se redovnom i visokom rodnošću. Sorta je tolerantna prema virusu šarke šljive (Plum pox virus). U uslovima prirodnog zaražavanja ispoljava veoma blage simptome karakteristične za prouzrokovače ekonomski najznačajnijih gljivičnih bolesti šljive.
Prosečna masa ploda je 24 g, pokožica je ljubičasto-plave boje sa obilnim pepeljkom. Mezokarp je žuto-zelene boje, čvrst, aromatičan i ukusan sa prosečno 19,70% rastvorljivih suvih materija. Plodovi se mogu koristiti za potrošnju u svežem stanju, kao i za različite vidove prerade.
Vreme sazrevanja plodova je veoma kasno, u drugoj dekadi septembra.

Detection of blueberry latent virus on highbush blueberries in Montenegro

AB  - Highbush blueberries (Vaccinium corymbosum L.) are a recent addition to Montenegro’s fruit producing repertoire. The northern region of the country is home to new, dense plantations. To investigate the presence of viruses in blueberry plantations in Montenegro
during 2022, visual inspections of plantations were carried out. Seventeen leaf samples of five cultivars were collected and analyzed. The samples were tested by ELISA for the presence of: blueberry shock virus (BlShV), blueberry scorch virus (BlScV), blueberry shoestring virus (BSSV), blueberry leaf mottle virus (BLMoV), tomato ringspot virus (ToRSV), and tobacco ringspot virus (TRSV). Assays were conducted according to the recommended protocols. The samples were further tested for the presence of blueberry mosaic-associated virus and blueberry latent virus using RT-PCR and for the presence of the blueberry red ringspot virus using PCR. Extraction of total nucleic acids was performed with 2% CTAB buffer. Reverse transcription was done with pd(N)6 random primers, and PCR was done with virus-specific primers. PCR products were analyzed by electrophoresis in a 1.5% agarose gel and stained with ethidium bromide. The presence of blueberry latent virus was confirmed in 10 blueberry samples
(59%) in cultivars ‘’Duke’, ‘Bluecrop’, and ‘Earlyblue’. Virus identification was confirmed by sequencing the amplified fusion protein gene fragments of all 10 isolates. No other viruses were confirmed in the tested samples. This is the first survey for virus presence in blueberries in Montenegro and the first finding of blueberry latent virus in the country.

AB  - In this study, the most important characteristics of tree vigour and
productivity, as well as pomological traits (fruit morphometric and chemical
characteristics) of new late ripening cultivars ʻDivnaʼ and ʻPetraʼ released at Fruit
Research Institute, Čačak were evaluated and compared to standard cultivar
ʻStanleyʼ. Both new cultivars had slightly larger tree and yield in comparison to
ʻStanleyʼ, but smaller fruit in general. ʻPetraʼ had the best chemical properties of
fruit followed by ʻDivnaʼ. Both new cultivars could be very interesting for
growing in new orchards due to very late ripening time, good fruit quality and
high cropping potential and also could be used in further breeding activities.

Model-based characterization of interactions between plum pox virus strains from a field survey

AB  - Multiple pathogen strains often co-circulate within the same host population and may lead to multiply infected individuals. However, the characterization of the interactions between strains and of their epidemiological impact is still a burgeoning research field. Here we show how modeling multi-strain epidemiological dynamics provides a more reliable assessment of strain interactions in the field than statistical tests of independence. The constructed model, which accounts for orchard age and all possible strain combinations, was applied to test for interactions between three virus strains under the assumption of endemicity. The Serbian survey data used for the inference showed that sharka, caused by the plum pox virus (PPV), is widespread in the 91 sampled plum orchards and that three strains (M, D, and Rec) are present even as double and triple infections in the field. The observed co-infection frequencies were compared with their predicted frequency under the neutral/null hypothesis that there is no direct or indirect interaction between strains. We showed that D+Rec coinfections were less frequent than expected in the neutral case but also, in contrast with model predictions, that D+Rec coinfection frequency decreased with the orchard age. Our results raise biological and epidemiological questions on the Rec strain of PPV and emphasizes the importance of coupling models and data to understand and predict dynamics in complex epidemiological systems.

Koncept integralne zaštite jagodastog voća u proizvodnji u zaštićenom prostoru i na otvorenom polju

AB  - Integralna zaštita bilјaka od štetočina i prouzrokovača bolesti (Integrated Pest Management - IPM) je sistem zaštite zasnovan na: dobrom poznavanju bilјaka domaćina, štetnih organizama, uslova sredine, njihove interakcije koja određuju rizik od pojave bolesti i ekonomskih šteta i kombinovanoj primeni svih mera kontrole (preventivne, biološke i hemijske mere).
Ovo je dinamičan sistem baziran na sledećim principima: prihvatlјiv nivo prisustva štetnih organizama, preventivne mere suzbijanja bolesti, praćenje prisustva štetnih organizama metodama inspekcije, sprovođenju odgovarajućih agrotehničkih i mehaničkih mera u eliminisanju izvora infekcije i kontroli štetnih organizama, korišćenje bioloških mera borbe i odgovorna upotreba pesticida.
Proizvodnja jagodastog voća, kao važan segment voćarstva Srbije, odvija se na otvorenom polјu i u zaštićenom prostoru. Koncept zaštite bilјaka u ovim sistemima mora biti prilagođen datoj sredini koja ima specifičan mikroklimat, što je posebno izraženo u zaštićenom prostoru. Temperaturni režim, vlažnost vazduha, intenzitet svetlosti i koncentracija uglјen dioksida se jako razlikuju od uslova spolјašnje sredine. Na otvorenom polјu bilјke se uglavnom gaje u zemlјištu, dok u zaštićenom prostoru dominira gajenje u supstratu čime je smanjen rizik od zemlјišnih patogena (glјive, pseudoglјive i bakterije), zemlјišnih insekata i nematoda, ali zahteva precizno izbalansiran režim navodnjavanja i ishrane jer je životni prostor bilјke ograničen.
U odnosu na otvoreno polјe, u zaštićenom prostoru je manji intenzitet napada od patogena prouzrokovača bolesti stabla i lista, antraknoze (Colletotrichum sp.) i truleži plodova (Botrytis cinerea). Nasuprot tome, intenzitet napada štetočina (bilјne vaši, grinje, bele leptiraste vaši, azijska voćna mušica i tripsi) je veći, pa se ovom problemu mora posvetiti veća pažnja. Prisustvo polinatora u zaštićenom prostoru čini zaštitu jagodastog voća specifičnom u odnosu na otvoreno polјe.
Strategija integralne zaštite mora biti imperativ u proizvodnji jagodastog voća u svim sistemima gajenja čime se osiguravaju visoki prinosi i kvalitetni i zdravstveno bezbedni plodovi.

abstract = "Integralna zaštita bilјaka od štetočina i prouzrokovača bolesti (Integrated Pest Management - IPM) je sistem zaštite zasnovan na: dobrom poznavanju bilјaka domaćina, štetnih organizama, uslova sredine, njihove interakcije koja određuju rizik od pojave bolesti i ekonomskih šteta i kombinovanoj primeni svih mera kontrole (preventivne, biološke i hemijske mere).Ovo je dinamičan sistem baziran na sledećim principima: prihvatlјiv nivo prisustva štetnih organizama, preventivne mere suzbijanja bolesti, praćenje prisustva štetnih organizama metodama inspekcije, sprovođenju odgovarajućih agrotehničkih i mehaničkih mera u eliminisanju izvora infekcije i kontroli štetnih organizama, korišćenje bioloških mera borbe i odgovorna upotreba pesticida.Proizvodnja jagodastog voća, kao važan segment voćarstva Srbije, odvija se na otvorenom polјu i u zaštićenom prostoru. Koncept zaštite bilјaka u ovim sistemima mora biti prilagođen datoj sredini koja ima specifičan mikroklimat, što je posebno izraženo u zaštićenom prostoru. Temperaturni režim, vlažnost vazduha, intenzitet svetlosti i koncentracija uglјen dioksida se jako razlikuju od uslova spolјašnje sredine. Na otvorenom polјu bilјke se uglavnom gaje u zemlјištu, dok u zaštićenom prostoru dominira gajenje u supstratu čime je smanjen rizik od zemlјišnih patogena (glјive, pseudoglјive i bakterije), zemlјišnih insekata i nematoda, ali zahteva precizno izbalansiran režim navodnjavanja i ishrane jer je životni prostor bilјke ograničen.U odnosu na otvoreno polјe, u zaštićenom prostoru je manji intenzitet napada od patogena prouzrokovača bolesti stabla i lista, antraknoze (Colletotrichum sp.) i truleži plodova (Botrytis cinerea). Nasuprot tome, intenzitet napada štetočina (bilјne vaši, grinje, bele leptiraste vaši, azijska voćna mušica i tripsi) je veći, pa se ovom problemu mora posvetiti veća pažnja. Prisustvo polinatora u zaštićenom prostoru čini zaštitu jagodastog voća specifičnom u odnosu na otvoreno polјe.Strategija integralne zaštite mora biti imperativ u proizvodnji jagodastog voća u svim sistemima gajenja čime se osiguravaju visoki prinosi i kvalitetni i zdravstveno bezbedni plodovi.",

AB  - Due to high water content, chokeberries (Aronia melanocarpa L.) are perishable. Therefore, energy-saving, combined drying technologies have been explored to improve the chokeberry drying. The combined microwave and the traditional convective drying method (MCD) have significantly enhanced the drying effectiveness, efficiency, and energy utilization rate and improved product quality. The MCD method, which implies the microwave power (MD) of 900 W for 9 s and the convective dehydration (CD) at 230 °C for 12 s, has the shortest dehydration time t (24 ± 2 min), has the maximum coefficient of diffusion (Deff = 6.0768 × 10-9 ± 5.9815 × 10-11 m2 s-1), and represents the most energy effective for dehydration process (Emin = 0.382 ± 0.036 kWh). A higher water-holding capacity (WHC) characterized the chokeberries obtained by the MCD method compared to the regular microwave method (MD). The mildest MCD (15 s of MD on 900 W, 7 s of CD on 180 °C) could dehydrate chokeberries with the highest WHC (685.71 ± 40.86 g H2O g-1 d.m.) and the greatest evaluations for sensory attributes in terms of all properties. The results of this study provide the drying behavior of chokeberries that can help develop efficient drying methods and improve existing ones.

pozicionirali su Institut kao jedan od vodećih oplemenjivačkih centara u Evropi iz oblasti voćarstva, a naročito šljive.
Osim oplemenjivanja voćaka, delatnost Instituta pokriva i ostale aspekte voćarske proizvodnje: agrotehnika, fiziologija voćaka, fitopatologija, prerada voća i proizvodnja sadnog materijala.
AB  - The Fruit Research Institute, Čačak is a leading scientific institution in the field of fruit growing in the Republic of Serbia and the region,
founded on July 17, 1946. The main activity of the Institute is scientific research work in the field of fruit growing - research and experimental development in biotechnical sciences.
There have been 44 cultivars of various fruit species created at the Institute to far, with the plum cultivars that have enhanced plum growing throughout the former SFRY and many other European countries standing out. The plums ‘Čačanska rodna’, ‘Čačanska lepotica’, ‘Čačanska rana’, ‘Čačanska najbolja’ and ‘Valjevka’ are synonymous for high-quality cultivars and are recognizable brands of Serbia and Čačak beyond the country's borders. The great commercial success of the Čačak’s cultivars positioned the Institute as one of the leading breeding centers in Europe in the field of fruit growing, especially plums.
In addition to fruit tree breeding, the Institute’s activities also cover other aspects of fruit production: agrotechnique, fruit tree physiology,
phytopathology, fruit processing and production of planting material.

AB  - Healthy and true-to-type plant planting material is essential for successful agricultural production. Vegetatively propagated species, such as fruits, are particularly endangered as many pathogens are transmitted through this type of propagation. The certification program for the production of fruit planting material in Serbia started in the mid-2000s. This was the pioneer effort in the country to establish the program and obtain plant material that satisfied all international and newly established national plant material production standards. Since 2005, a total of 26 plum cultivars were introduced into the program. The certification was based on the evaluation of the candidate clones and included the analysis of plants for the presence of prescribed pathogens and their pomological observations. As a result, a nuclear stock of 25 plums, including domestic, autochthonous, and foreign cultivars with a total number of 155 plants was obtained at the Fruit Research Institute, Čačak.
